About Victron Battery Monitors and SmartShunt
Accurate state of charge readings rely on more than a voltage reading at rest. Victron battery monitors track current, voltage and temperature and use coulomb counting to work out exactly how much charge is left, which is far more reliable than reading voltage alone.
The SmartShunt packs a shunt and Bluetooth connectivity into one compact unit, so you get full monitoring through the Victron app without needing a separate display. It's available in 500A, 1000A and 2000A ratings, plus an IP65 version for damp or exposed installations. The BMV-712 adds a physical display panel with historical data and a relay output for those who want a dedicated screen rather than relying on a phone.
Both ranges integrate with Victron GX devices and the VRM portal, and a temperature sensor is available for the BMV-702/712 to add temperature compensation to the readings.
