WEEE and Environmental

LED & Solar's lighting range is covered by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations. As a producer of lamps and luminaires we are responsible for financing the end-of-life treatment of that equipment, and we meet that responsibility through membership of Recolight, the compliance scheme run by and for the lighting industry.

What Recolight covers

Recolight's free recycling service applies to lamps and luminaires. It does not extend to any other product category we sell.

  • Regular large quantities of lamps: Recolight provides a free container, with free collection and recycling.
  • Large refit projects and one-off collections: container, collection and recycling are all free.
  • Smaller quantities: you can lease a container, with collection and recycling free of charge.
  • Waste lamps can also be taken to a Recolight collection point at wholesalers and lighting suppliers around the UK. Recolight's collection point locator will show you the nearest one.
  • Luminaire collection is available too. Contact Recolight directly for details.

The WEEE regulations

Introduced in 2007, the WEEE Regulations aim to increase the reuse and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment and cut the amount that ends up in landfill. Producers are required to finance the collection, treatment and recycling of the equipment they place on the market, and membership of a scheme such as Recolight is how that obligation is met.

About Recolight

Recolight members have recycled more lamps, LEDs and luminaires between them than all other UK WEEE schemes combined. The scheme runs a dedicated customer service team managing several hundred waste lamp, LED and luminaire collections every month, and operates a UK-wide network of over 2,000 collection points giving free access to recycling. Recolight is not for profit, so funds go towards providing that free recycling rather than towards a margin. It was set up by the lighting industry, for the lighting industry, and is a member of the LIA.
