Product Description
The Victron BMV-700 is a battery monitor for 12V, 24V and 48V systems. It uses a 500A/50mV shunt to track state of charge, voltage, current, power and time remaining, giving installers and operators real-time data on battery condition rather than a voltage estimate.
Key features
- State of charge, calculated from actual current flow, shown as a percentage.
- Measurements, battery voltage, charge/discharge current, power in watts and time remaining at current load.
- Relay output, programmable to trigger alarms or control external devices based on SOC, voltage or temperature thresholds.
- Display, backlit, with rotary dial navigation for use in low light.
- Battery chemistries, configurable for lead-acid (flooded, AGM, gel) and lithium.
- Shunt included, 500A/50mV, fitted without interrupting the main battery circuit.
- Data logging, records deepest discharge, average discharge, total charge cycles and cumulative energy throughput.
Product overview
Because the BMV-700 measures current through the shunt rather than estimating from voltage alone, it accounts for the non-linear relationship between voltage and state of charge. This matters most on lithium batteries and heavily cycled lead-acid banks. Settings such as battery capacity, Peukert exponent, charge efficiency factor and tail current are all adjustable from the front panel and stored in non-volatile memory.
A VE.Direct port allows connection to Victron GX devices, the Victron Connect app (via a VE.Direct to USB or Bluetooth dongle, sold separately) and compatible MPPT charge controllers for system-wide monitoring.
Applications
Suits off-grid solar systems, marine and narrowboat installations, motorhome and campervan leisure batteries, and backup power or UPS systems running lead-acid or lithium banks. Also used on telecoms and remote sites where logged energy data is needed.
Installation notes
The shunt fits on the negative battery terminal, between the battery bank and all loads and charge sources; incorrect placement gives inaccurate SOC readings. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator, and marine installs should follow relevant BMEA or RYA wiring standards.
