The Victron BMV-712 Smart is a battery monitor for 12V, 24V and 48V systems. It tracks state of charge, voltage, current, power and consumed amp-hours, and sends the data over Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app on iOS and Android.

How it works

A 500A/50mV shunt measures current in and out of the battery. The BMV-712 uses this to calculate state of charge by coulomb counting, which holds up better under load than voltage-based estimates. It logs charge cycles, deepest discharge, average discharge and time since last full charge. Settings such as battery capacity, Peukert exponent, charge efficiency factor and tail current are all adjustable through VictronConnect.

Applications

Suited to off-grid solar systems, marine dual-battery setups with a house bank and starter battery, motorhome and campervan leisure batteries, and backup power systems where battery condition needs tracking. The shunt fits on the negative conductor between the battery negative terminal and the rest of the system's negative connections.
