Product Description
The Victron BMV-702 is a battery monitor for 12V, 24V and 48V systems, built around a 500A/50mV shunt that tracks every amp flowing in and out of the battery bank. It reports state of charge, voltage, current, power and time remaining, giving installers and boat or motorhome owners a clear picture of battery health.
Key features
- State of charge, shown as a percentage using Peukert-corrected ampere-hour counting rather than voltage estimation alone.
- Current measurement, up to 500A via the included shunt, with voltage, power in watts and consumed amp-hours also displayed.
- Time-to-go, calculated from the current discharge rate for a realistic runtime estimate.
- Programmable relay, switches on SOC, voltage or temperature thresholds for alarms or load control.
- Battery chemistry support, lead-acid types (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium LiFePO4.
- Midpoint voltage monitoring, flags cell or battery imbalance in series 24V or 48V banks.
- Bluetooth setup, configurable via the VictronConnect app when paired with an optional VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle.
Product overview
The display connects to the shunt by a CAT5 cable, and the shunt sits on the negative battery terminal with all loads and charge sources wired to its load side. A VE.Direct port allows connection to Victron GX devices, MPPT charge controllers and the VRM portal, though a VE.Direct cable itself is not included.
Applications
Suited to off-grid solar systems, marine and narrowboat electrics, motorhome leisure battery setups, backup power systems, and larger 24V or 48V banks where midpoint monitoring helps catch early imbalance. It also integrates into Victron systems that report to the VRM portal via a GX device.
What's in the box
- BMV-702 display unit
- 500A / 50mV shunt
- CAT5 connection cable (display to shunt)
- Mounting hardware and battery connection cables
- Retail packaging with installation documentation
Installation notes
The shunt goes on the negative terminal only, with negative loads and charge sources connected to its load side; wiring it incorrectly gives inaccurate readings. Systems above 48V are not supported. A qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer is recommended for larger or commercial off-grid setups.
