Product Description

The Victron SmartShunt 1000A is a standalone battery monitor for solar, off-grid and marine installations that need accurate state-of-charge tracking. It pairs directly with a smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth, so there's no separate display unit to fit. It works with any battery chemistry, which makes it a practical choice for installers who want reliable monitoring without extra hardware.

Victron smartshunt battery monitor features

  • Current rating, 1000A continuous, suited to large battery banks in off-grid, marine and commercial vehicle systems.
  • Connectivity, Bluetooth via the VictronConnect app plus a VE.Direct port for GX devices and the VRM portal.
  • Monitored data, state of charge, voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours, time to go and history.
  • Battery compatibility, lead-acid types (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium including LiFePO4.
  • Configurable parameters, capacity, Peukert exponent, charge efficiency factor and tail current.
  • Form factor, shunt-only design with no monitor head, so it takes up less panel space.

How it works

All the monitoring electronics sit inside the shunt body itself, rather than in a separate display unit. Readings go straight to the VictronConnect app, giving a real-time view of battery status on a phone or tablet. That suits enclosures, camper van builds and remote off-grid cabinets where a permanent screen isn't needed.

The VE.Direct port lets the SmartShunt feed data into a Cerbo GX or other Victron GX device for remote monitoring through VRM. Because the battery parameters are configurable, the monitor can be calibrated to the exact bank it's connected to.

There's no on-unit display. If a permanent panel readout is needed, a BMV-712 or GX display would be the better fit. Where app-based or remote monitoring is enough, the SmartShunt gives the same measurement in a smaller package.

Applications

Large off-grid solar battery banks, marine and narrowboat DC systems with limited panel space, commercial vehicle and motorhome leisure batteries, Victron systems with a Cerbo GX for VRM monitoring, and parallel battery banks where current draw exceeds smaller shunts.

What's in the box

  • Victron SmartShunt 1000A (SHU050210050)
  • Connection cable for battery negative and auxiliary input

Installation notes

Fit the SmartShunt in the negative battery cable, between the battery negative terminal and all other negative connections, so every load and charge source returns through it. Installation in high-current DC systems should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced installer, following the relevant wiring standards for the installation type. No separate power supply is needed beyond the battery connection.
