Product Description

The Victron SmartShunt 300A is a standalone battery monitor that connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app, tracking state of charge, voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours and time remaining without needing a separate display. It suits off-grid, marine, vehicle and backup power installations where accurate battery data matters.

Key features of the Victron SmartShunt 300A

  • Monitoring, tracks state of charge, voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours and time-to-go via Bluetooth
  • Current rating, 300A continuous with a 500A peak current capability
  • App connection, pairs directly with VictronConnect on iOS and Android, no additional hardware required
  • Battery compatibility, works with lead-acid, AGM, gel, lithium (LiFePO4) and lithium-ion chemistries
  • Design, compact, display-free unit that simplifies installation compared to a shunt-and-display setup
  • VE.Direct output, integrates with Victron GX devices and the Venus OS ecosystem

How it works

The shunt carries the battery negative current while internal electronics measure the voltage drop across the precision resistor to calculate current flow. Readings are sent over Bluetooth Low Energy to VictronConnect, which shows live and historical data on a phone or tablet. Charge and discharge efficiency factors, the Peukert exponent and tail current settings can all be adjusted, and configuring these for your specific battery bank gives more reliable state-of-charge readings than the factory defaults.

Applications

  • Off-grid solar battery banks needing accurate state-of-charge monitoring
  • Marine and narrowboat 12V or 24V house battery systems
  • Motorhome, campervan and vehicle leisure battery installations
  • Backup power and UPS systems where battery health visibility matters
  • Existing Victron installations via VE.Direct and GX devices

What's in the box

  • Victron SmartShunt 300A unit
  • VE.Direct cable
  • Temperature sensor
  • Negative battery cable connection hardware

Installation notes

The SmartShunt fits in the negative battery cable, between the battery negative terminal and every other negative connection in the system. All negative loads and chargers must return through the shunt for accurate current measurement. Fitting in a 12V, 24V or 48V DC system should be done by a qualified electrician or an installer experienced with battery systems, and marine installations should follow relevant BMEA or ISO wiring standards.

Bluetooth range noteThe shunt and the electric cables do negatively influence the range of the Bluetooth signal. The resulting range of 10-15 meter is however satisfactory in most cases. The proximity of other electrically conducting elements, such as the metal chassis of a vehicle or seawater around the hull if a boat, may reduce the range of the Bluetooth signal to an unacceptable level. The solution in such a case is to add a VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle (ASS030536011) to the system, and to switch off Bluetooth in the SmartShunt.
