Product Description
The Victron SmartShunt 2000A/50mV IP65 is a standalone battery monitor built for high-current systems where accurate state-of-charge tracking matters. It connects to the Victron Connect app over Bluetooth, so off-grid setups, large battery banks and commercial installations can track their batteries without a separate display unit.
Key features of the smart shunt battery monitor
- Current rating, 2000A continuous with a 50mV shunt drop, suited to large battery banks and high-draw systems.
- Enclosure, IP65 rated, protecting against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets for exposed or outdoor-adjacent installs.
- Connectivity, built-in Bluetooth with full monitoring and configuration through the Victron Connect app on iOS and Android.
- Monitoring, state of charge, voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours and time remaining.
- Battery compatibility, lead-acid types (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium (LiFePO4).
- Integration, VE.Direct port for connection to GX devices, MPPT solar chargers and Venus OS installations.
Product overview
The SmartShunt measures the voltage drop across a precision shunt resistor to calculate current flow. At 2000A it covers systems well beyond residential scale: large off-grid installations, marine vessels with high electrical loads, and commercial battery storage setups. The 50mV shunt drop is a standard value balancing measurement accuracy against power dissipation at high currents.
The IP65 rating sets this model apart from the standard SmartShunt range, allowing installation in engine rooms, poorly ventilated battery compartments or outdoor enclosures where dust and occasional water spray are a factor.
Connected to a Cerbo GX or other GX device via VE.Direct, the SmartShunt feeds battery data into the Venus OS dashboard and can be monitored remotely through the VRM portal, making it a data source for larger multi-device installations rather than just a standalone instrument.
Applications
Suited to large off-grid solar installations, marine and narrowboat electrical systems with high continuous current demands, commercial battery storage integrated with GX devices and VRM, motorhome and coach conversions with large battery banks, and installations in damp or dusty environments specifying an IP65 component.
Installation notes
Fit the SmartShunt in the negative battery cable, between the battery negative terminal and all other negative connections. Incorrect wiring produces inaccurate readings. At 2000A, cabling, fusing and busbar connections must be rated for the system's maximum current, so installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced high-current DC system integrator. Check relevant safety and compliance requirements before commissioning, especially where lithium batteries or grid-connected elements are involved.
