Product Description

This kit pairs the Victron Multiplus-II GX 5kVA inverter-charger with two Pylontech US5000 48V lithium batteries, giving a complete AC-coupled storage system. It charges from the mains grid so stored energy can be used during peak tariff periods. Solar panels aren't required, though they can be added later.

Key features

  • Inverter-charger, Victron Multiplus-II GX 5kVA with integrated GX controller
  • Batteries, 2x Pylontech US5000 48V 4.8kWh lithium batteries, 9.6kWh usable total
  • Grid monitoring, CT current transformer 100A with 5m cable
  • Battery communication, VE.Can to CAN-Bus BMS Type A cable, 1.8m
  • Mounting and protection, 2x US5000 wall brackets, interconnect cables, 2x 160A fuses and a DC disconnector
  • Commissioning, MK3-USB interface for setup via VictronConnect

How it works

The Multiplus-II GX charges the Pylontech battery bank from the mains, typically on a cheap overnight tariff, then discharges that stored energy during the day or at peak rates. This cuts electricity costs without needing solar panels. The system can also run alongside existing solar PV and feed-in tariff arrangements, since it connects in parallel and doesn't affect existing FIT earnings. The included CT sensor enables PowerControl and PowerAssist, so the system won't draw more current than the supply allows.

Each Pylontech US5000 provides 4800Wh nominal energy at 48V, with a 95% depth of discharge and a 15 year design life. The Multiplus-II GX and batteries communicate over the included VE.Can to CAN-Bus BMS cable.

Applications

  • Home energy storage without solar panels
  • Off-peak charging with peak-hour discharge
  • Properties with existing solar PV and feed-in tariff contracts
  • Backup power during grid outages

Installation notes

Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician experienced with battery storage and Victron equipment. AC connection, DC wiring, battery cabling, fusing and earthing must follow IET Wiring Regulations and Victron's installation guidelines. Commissioning needs VictronConnect and the MK3-USB interface. This is not a DIY installation.
