The Voltacon 5.5kW home energy storage system packs a hybrid inverter, 10kWh lithium battery bank and AC charger into one metallic cabinet. ENA certified and G99 compliant, it suits grid-tied residential installations and covers self-consumption, backup power and off-peak tariff charging. The battery bank is expandable up to 50kWh. Solar panels help but are not required to run the system.

How it works

The system stores energy from solar panels or the mains grid and feeds it to the consumer unit, cutting reliance on grid electricity during peak tariff periods. When solar is generating, the system prioritises self-consumption and charges the battery with any surplus. Without solar, the battery can charge overnight on an off-peak tariff and discharge during the day instead.

The 10kWh bank holds double the storage of the 5kWh version, so it suits larger households or properties with heavier overnight demand better. Capacity expands in modules up to 50kWh maximum.

PV compatibility

Works with monocrystalline and polycrystalline PV modules only. Do not connect other PV array types, and do not earth the positive or negative terminal of the solar array.

Installation and safety notes

Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited solar installer. G99 notification and DNO approval are required before grid connection. AC wiring, battery connections, DC fusing and earthing must comply with IET Wiring Regulations. IP20 rated for indoor use only; this is not a DIY installation.
