Product Description

The Victron MultiPlus 48/800/9-16 is a combined inverter and battery charger in a single compact unit for 48V off-grid and backup power systems running at 230V AC. It suits installers working on small off-grid builds, narrowboats, caravans, remote cabins and UPS applications where a low-power inverter charger is enough.

Key features of this power inverter charger

  • Inverter output, 800VA continuous at 230V AC from a 48V DC battery bank.
  • Charger output, 9A battery charging current.
  • AC input, 16A rating for shore or generator power.
  • Communication, VE.Bus interface for monitoring and parallel operation via Victron GX devices.
  • PowerAssist, draws extra power from the battery when demand exceeds the available AC input, so the source does not trip.
  • Transfer switch, fast changeover, suitable for use as a UPS.

Product overview

Running from a 48V battery bank keeps cable currents lower than a 12V or 24V equivalent, which helps on longer cable runs or where minimising losses matters. The 9A charger is sized for smaller battery banks, where a compact footprint counts for more than charging speed.

VE.Bus lets the unit be monitored and controlled through Victron GX devices such as the Cerbo GX, and configured with VE.Configure software. Units can be linked in parallel or split-phase configurations, though the 800VA model is most often used standalone in small systems.

PowerAssist in practice

Where the AC input is limited, such as a small generator or a restricted shore connection, PowerAssist pulls the shortfall from the battery during short-term peaks, so the input breaker does not trip.

Applications

  • Small off-grid cabins and remote buildings with a 48V battery bank.
  • Narrowboats and canal boats needing 230V AC from a 48V DC system.
  • Caravan and motorhome installations with 48V lithium batteries.
  • UPS and backup power where fast transfer to battery is required.
  • Small solar off-grid systems paired with a Victron MPPT controller and GX device.
  • Telecoms and remote equipment enclosures needing a compact 48V inverter charger.

What's in the box

  • Victron MultiPlus 48/800/9-16 230V VE.Bus inverter charger unit.

Installation notes

Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer. The unit connects directly to a 48V battery bank and a 230V AC supply, both of which are hazardous if wired incorrectly. Battery cabling must be correctly rated with appropriate fusing fitted. This unit is not certified for grid-tied export in the UK and must not be connected to the grid without isolation and compliance with G98 or G99 requirements.
