How it works

An isolation transformer magnetically couples the shore power supply to the onboard AC system without a direct electrical connection. This breaks the galvanic circuit that would otherwise form between a hull, the shore earth conductor, and other vessels or structures in the water, a common cause of accelerated corrosion on propellers, shafts and hull fittings.

The 115/230V dual voltage capability means the transformer accepts either North American 115V shore supplies or European 230V supplies, useful for vessels moving between regions with mixed infrastructure. At 2500W it covers typical onboard loads such as battery chargers, air conditioning units, galley appliances and general AC distribution panels. The unit is passive, with no active electronics, so maintenance needs stay low.

Applications

Used on marine vessels connected to shore power at marinas, on motorhomes and coaches using site hook-up, and in off-grid cabins or remote installations where the incoming supply earth needs separating from the local system earth. Also suited to commercial vessels and workboats with mixed 115V/230V shore power requirements.

Installation notes

This transformer handles mains AC voltages and must be installed by a qualified electrician or marine electrical engineer, positioned close to the shore power inlet and upstream of the main AC distribution panel. Mount in a dry, ventilated location with appropriate circuit protection upstream and downstream.
