Product Description

The Victron Centaur Charger 12/80(3) is a three-output 80A battery charger for 12V battery banks, accepting AC input from 120 to 240V. It suits marine, vehicle and off-grid installations where multiple battery banks need reliable charging from one unit.

Key features

  • Output current, 80A total, split across three independent outputs.
  • AC input range, 120 to 240V, no manual voltage switching needed for UK or international shore power.
  • Three outputs, charge a starter battery, domestic bank and generator start battery independently.
  • Charging algorithm, microprocessor-controlled adaptive four-stage profile covering bulk, absorption, float and storage.
  • Battery compatibility, suits flooded, gel and AGM lead-acid chemistries.
  • Temperature compensation, output voltage adjusts with ambient conditions.
  • Weight, 10.2kg, housed in an aluminium enclosure.

Product overview

The Centaur sits in Victron's professional charger range, built for installations running more than one battery bank from a single charger. Each output is managed on its own, so a starter battery and a domestic bank at different states of charge are both handled correctly rather than one dragging down the other.

The adaptive algorithm watches battery response through the absorption stage and adjusts charge time rather than running a fixed schedule. Storage mode drops the float voltage once a battery has been sitting fully charged for a while, which cuts electrolyte loss over time.

Applications

  • Marine vessels with separate starter, domestic and bow thruster banks.
  • Motorhomes and coaches charging chassis and habitation batteries together.
  • Off-grid cabins and remote sites running 12V lead-acid systems.
  • Generator-backed setups charging multiple banks during run time.
  • Commercial vehicles with auxiliary battery banks needing regular high-current charging.

What's in the box

  • Victron Centaur Charger 12/80(3) 120-240V unit.

Installation notes

Fit by a qualified electrician or marine electrical engineer. Fuse the AC supply correctly and size DC output cables for the current on each output. Marine installations should follow applicable BMEA or RCD wiring standards, and battery chemistry settings should be checked before first use to match the installed batteries. Do not mount in an unventilated enclosure, since the unit generates heat under high-current charging.
