Product Description

The Victron Centaur Charger 12/100(3) is a three-output 12V battery charger delivering 100A total charge current. It accepts AC input from 120 to 240V, so the same unit can be used on shore power or generator supply across the UK, Europe and North America. It is built for professional installation in marine, vehicle and stationary off-grid systems that need reliable, high-current charging across multiple battery banks.

Key features

  • Output, 100A total at 12V, split across three independent outputs
  • AC input, 120-240V AC, suited to varying grid and generator supplies
  • Charging, three-stage adaptive algorithm covering bulk, absorption and float
  • Battery types, compatible with flooded, gel and AGM lead-acid batteries
  • Control, microprocessor-controlled with temperature compensation
  • Weight, 12kg, transformer-based construction

How the three outputs work

Each of the three outputs is independently regulated, which matters on boats and vehicles with separate battery banks for engine starting, domestic loads and bow thrusters. A discharged domestic bank does not pull current away from the starter battery, because each output charges its bank on its own terms.

Charging stages

Bulk charge applies the full 100A to bring batteries up quickly. Absorption holds voltage steady while current tapers off. Float then maintains full charge without overcharging, which helps battery service life compared with a simple constant-voltage charger. A built-in temperature sensor reduces charge voltage as battery temperature rises, useful in engine rooms and enclosed compartments.

Applications

Fits marine vessels running separate engine start, domestic and thruster banks, large motorhomes and coaches on shore power, off-grid cabins running from a generator, and commercial or hire fleet installations needing dependable recharging between uses.

Installation notes

Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or marine electrical engineer, with the unit connected to a correctly fused and earthed AC supply. Allow ventilation around the charger, especially in enclosed spaces. DC cables should be sized for 100A continuous current and kept short to limit voltage drop. Check battery chemistry before connecting, since charge profiles differ between flooded, gel and AGM types.
