Product Description

The Victron Centaur 24/30 is a three-output mains-powered battery charger built for jobs where more than one battery bank needs attention at the same time. It takes AC input anywhere from 120 to 240V, so it works on UK, European or North American supplies without a manual voltage switch. Marine, vehicle, off-grid and industrial installers use it where automatic, unattended charging matters.

Key features of this marine battery charger

  • Output, 30A total at 24V across three independent output channels.
  • AC input, accepts 120 to 240V without manual adjustment.
  • Charging algorithm, adaptive four-stage cycle covering bulk, absorption, float and storage.
  • Temperature compensation, output voltage adjusts to battery temperature.
  • Battery compatibility, works with flooded, gel and AGM lead-acid types.
  • Protection, sealed against reverse polarity, short circuit and high temperature.
  • Weight, 5kg, suited to permanent fitting in tight spaces.

How the adaptive charging works

The Centaur adjusts absorption time based on the previous charge cycle. A heavily discharged battery gets a longer absorption phase; a lightly used one gets a shorter one, cutting gassing and heat. Fixed-time chargers cannot do this, and battery life suffers as a result.

Each of the three outputs is managed independently. The charger can push full current into a depleted bank while holding another on float, which suits boats and vehicles running separate starter, service and bow thruster batteries.

Applications

  • Marine installations charging starter, service and auxiliary banks together.
  • Motorhomes, coaches and commercial vehicles with 24V systems.
  • Off-grid cabins running from generator or shore power.
  • Industrial and telecoms backup systems needing automatic maintenance.
  • Rental fleets and plant equipment kept topped up between uses.

Installation notes

Fit this by a qualified electrician on a correctly fused, earthed AC supply. Check the battery bank matches the 24V output before wiring in. Leave room around the unit for airflow during long charge cycles, and on boats follow the relevant BMEA or IEC wiring standards. Keep it away from direct water ingress.
