Product Description

The Victron Centaur Charger 24/40 is a three-output, mains-powered battery charger built for installations where more than one battery bank needs automatic charging from a single unit. It delivers 40A on a 24V system and accepts an AC input range of 120 to 240V, so it works on both UK and international mains supplies.

Key features

  • 40A output on 24V with three independent output channels for separate battery banks
  • AC input voltage range of 120 to 240V, no manual adjustment needed
  • Adaptive four-stage charging (bulk, absorption, float, storage) that responds to battery condition
  • Temperature-compensated charging available via an optional sensor input
  • Suitable for flooded, gel and AGM lead-acid batteries
  • Microprocessor-controlled with automatic restart after an AC supply interruption
  • Metal enclosure, 12kg, intended for fixed installation

Product overview

The Centaur sits above Victron's basic single-output chargers, aimed at setups needing more than one maintained battery bank. The primary output can take the full 40A while the secondary outputs keep auxiliary or starter batteries topped up. That suits vessels, larger vehicles and off-grid sites where separate banks feed different loads.

The charging algorithm tracks battery voltage and adjusts current and voltage through the cycle, which avoids overcharging in absorption and keeps batteries healthy on float or storage. Because the input range spans 120 to 240V, the same unit works on North American and European or UK supplies.

Applications

  • Marine vessels with separate engine start, service and bow thruster banks
  • Motorhomes, coaches and commercial vehicles with 24V systems
  • Off-grid cabins and industrial sites needing automatic maintenance from mains or generator power
  • Telecoms and security installations requiring continuous float charging
  • Rental fleets and plant machinery with 24V electrics

What's in the box

  • Victron Centaur Charger 24/40 (3 outputs) unit

Installation notes

Connect to a correctly fused and earthed AC mains supply, carried out by a qualified electrician. DC connections to battery banks should be rated and fused appropriately, and marine wiring must meet applicable marine electrical standards. Check generator voltage and frequency sit within the charger's input range before energising. Installation should be done by someone familiar with battery charging and DC electrical work.
