Product Description

The Victron BMV-702 is a battery monitor for 12V, 24V and 48V systems that reports state of charge, voltage, current and consumed amp hours in real time. It works by measuring current through a precision shunt and integrating that reading over time, which gives a far more accurate state of charge figure than voltage-based estimation methods.

Key features

  • State of charge, continuously updated percentage based on measured current flow
  • Multi-parameter monitoring, voltage, current draw and consumed amp hours tracked simultaneously
  • Battery compatibility, works with 12V, 24V and 48V battery banks
  • Programmable relay, set for high/low voltage alarms or SOC thresholds
  • Backlit display, readable in low-light conditions such as boat cabins or van interiors
  • Bluetooth ready, connects to the VictronConnect app via an optional Bluetooth dongle

How the victron battery monitor works

The BMV-702 uses its included shunt to measure current in and out of the battery bank, then calculates consumed amp hours and derives SOC from that data. The programmable relay can trigger an alarm or disconnect a load at a set SOC or voltage point, helping to avoid deep discharge. It also logs charge cycles, deepest discharge and average discharge for diagnostic purposes. A second voltage input lets you monitor a starter or auxiliary battery alongside the main bank, which suits marine and vehicle setups with two battery groups.

Applications

  • Off-grid solar battery systems
  • Marine installations with single or dual battery banks
  • Motorhome and campervan leisure batteries
  • Telecoms and remote power systems
  • Industrial backup power with 12V, 24V or 48V banks

What's in the box

  • BMV-702 display unit
  • 500A / 50mV shunt
  • 10 metre connection cable between shunt and display
  • Mounting hardware and installation accessories

Installation notes

The shunt fits on the negative conductor, with all negative loads and charge sources wired to its load side. Installation should be done by a qualified electrician, and the unit is not intended for grid-connected metering.
