The Solis S6-EA1P5K-L is a 5kW AC-coupled hybrid inverter that adds battery storage to an existing grid-tied solar PV system. It connects on the AC side, so there's no need to touch the existing PV inverter or DC string wiring. It works with both lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries.

Product overview

AC-coupling is a straightforward route to battery storage on a property that already has a grid-tied solar PV system. The S6-EA1P5K-L connects at the consumer unit on the AC side, reading grid import and export through a current transformer. It charges the battery from solar, from the grid during low-tariff periods, or from both, without touching the existing inverter or DC wiring. Firmware updates and battery monitoring run remotely through SolisCloud, and non-communicating lithium batteries are supported for flexible configuration.

Applications

Suited to retrofitting battery storage onto an existing grid-tied solar installation, particularly where a DC-coupled upgrade isn't practical. It also fits time-of-use tariff optimisation and adding backup power to a system that's already installed.

Installation notes

Grid connection requires G98 or G99 compliance in the UK, depending on combined system size. Installation must be carried out by a qualified MCS-accredited installer, with battery type and communication protocol configured at commissioning.
