Product Description

The Victron Skylla-IP65 12/70 (1+1) is a 12V, 70A battery charger built for marine, vehicle and industrial use. Its IP65-rated enclosure copes with wet or dusty locations that would put a standard charger out of action, making it a practical marine battery charger for boats, coaches and off-grid systems. The (1+1) output configuration gives one main output plus a dedicated starter battery output, so two separate battery banks can be charged at once.

Key features of this marine battery charger

  • Output, 12V, 70A main output with a second output for starter battery charging via the (1+1) configuration.
  • IP65 enclosure, protection against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets.
  • AC input, wide 120-240V range, covering European, UK and North American shore power.
  • Charging algorithm, adaptive 4-stage bulk, absorption, float, storage profile.
  • Battery compatibility, works with flooded, gel, AGM and lithium-ion batteries with correct settings.
  • Monitoring, VE.Direct port for use with Victron GX devices and the VictronConnect app.

Built for demanding installations

The Skylla-IP65 range suits environments where moisture, vibration and variable shore power are routine. The IP65 rating lets it be mounted in engine rooms, on deck, in vehicle bays or in outdoor enclosures without a separate weatherproof housing. Because the AC input spans 120-240V, the same unit runs on UK, EU and North American supplies, which helps on vessels or vehicles that cross regions.

The (1+1) output topology suits any setup with separate service and starter battery banks. The 70A main output covers the service bank while the second output maintains the starter battery independently, removing the need for a separate battery-to-battery charger. Each output's charge parameters can be set independently, useful where the two banks differ in chemistry or capacity.

A built-in battery temperature sensor input allows charge voltage compensation across changing ambient conditions. VE.Direct connectivity links the charger into a wider Victron system: connected to a Cerbo GX or similar device, charge status, voltage and current show on the GX display or via the VRM portal. VictronConnect handles configuration of charge algorithms, voltage thresholds and battery type without opening the unit. The housing is aluminium, weighs 6.5 kg and has a compact form factor for panel or bulkhead mounting.

Applications

  • Marine vessels needing simultaneous charging of service and starter battery banks from shore power.
  • Commercial vehicles, coaches and motorhomes with separate leisure and engine battery systems.
  • Industrial equipment and off-grid installations in outdoor or semi-exposed locations.
  • Backup power systems operating in non-climate-controlled environments.
  • Installations requiring compatibility with both 120V and 240V AC supplies across different regions.

Installation notes

Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician familiar with DC battery systems and AC mains wiring. The AC supply must be correctly fused and DC output cabling rated for the full 70A output. The IP65 rating relies on all cable entry points being properly sealed with suitable glands to maintain ingress protection. Marine installations should follow the relevant standards for electrical installation on vessels.
