Product overview

CAN-bus communication between a battery BMS and an inverter/charger or GX device lets the BMS pass real time data: state of charge, cell voltages, charge and discharge limits, and alarm states. The system can then respond to actual battery conditions instead of fixed charge settings. The Type B variant is needed for BMS units wired to the CAN-bus Type B pinout, which differs from Type A. Fitting the wrong type means no communication, so check the BMS manufacturer's CAN-bus type before ordering.

This 5 m option is the longer of Victron's standard lengths for this cable and suits systems where the battery bank and the GX device or inverter are in separate locations. CAN-bus uses differential signalling and tolerates runs of this length where the bus is terminated correctly at both ends.

Installation notes

Confirm your BMS uses the CAN-bus Type B pinout before fitting. A Type B cable on a Type A port will not communicate and may cause issues depending on the hardware. CAN-bus networks need correct termination at both ends, so check your BMS and Victron documentation for your system's topology.
