Product Description

The Victron MultiPlus 48/5000/70-100 combines a pure sine wave inverter and a battery charger in one unit, built for 48V battery systems running 230V AC loads. It suits off-grid setups, backup power systems, and marine or vehicle installations that need dependable AC output alongside efficient charging from a single enclosure.

Key features of the Victron MultiPlus inverter charger

  • Inverter output, 5000VA continuous at 230V AC from a 48V DC battery bank.
  • Battery charger, 70A built in, with an adaptive charge algorithm for different battery chemistries.
  • Transfer switch, 100A, switching automatically between shore or generator power and inverter output.
  • PowerControl, limits load on a generator or shore supply by reducing charge current as AC loads rise.
  • PowerAssist, draws extra power from the battery bank during peak demand, letting a smaller AC source support larger loads.
  • VE.Bus interface, supports parallel operation, three-phase configuration and integration with Victron GX devices via the VRM portal.

How it works

The 5000VA output handles demanding off-grid loads, and the 70A charger manages large battery banks without a separate charging unit. The 100A transfer switch connects or disconnects the AC input with a transfer time fast enough to protect most sensitive equipment.

PowerControl stops the unit drawing more current than the AC source can supply, while PowerAssist lets it pull additional power from the battery bank when loads briefly exceed what that source can deliver. Multiple units can be paralleled for higher output or wired for split-phase or three-phase arrangements, with full monitoring available through a Cerbo GX and the VRM portal.

Applications

  • Off-grid solar systems with 48V battery banks needing AC output and integrated charging.
  • Backup power installations requiring automatic transfer from mains or generator to battery.
  • Marine vessels and large motorhomes with 48V DC systems and 230V AC loads.
  • Parallel or three-phase configurations for larger off-grid or hybrid commercial sites.
  • Generator-assisted systems where PowerAssist lets a smaller generator cover larger peak loads.

What's in the box

  • 1 x Victron MultiPlus 48/5000/70-100 230V VE.Bus inverter charger unit.

Installation notes

This unit must be installed by a qualified electrician familiar with battery-based inverter systems. At 48V and 5000VA, DC cabling, fusing and battery connections must be rated for the currents involved. For grid or generator connected use in the UK, follow the relevant wiring regulations and G98 or G99 requirements where applicable. VE.Bus configuration for parallel or three-phase operation needs Victron's VEConfigure software and should be carried out by a trained Victron installer.
