Product Description

The Victron MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V GX combines an inverter, battery charger and transfer switch with a built-in GX device, all in one unit. Designed for off-grid, hybrid and backup power installations, it takes a 48V battery bank and delivers 4500VA of continuous AC output. The onboard Venus OS GX controller gives monitoring and system control without needing a separate Cerbo GX.

Key features of the Victron MultiPlus-II inverter charger

  • Output, 4500VA continuous at 230V AC, with 9000W peak surge for motor start loads.
  • Charger, 55A adaptive charge algorithm, suitable for AGM, gel, flooded and lithium batteries.
  • AC input limit, 32A, adjustable via the GX interface or VEConfigure.
  • Integrated GX device, runs Venus OS with VRM portal connectivity and DVCC support, no separate Cerbo GX or CCGX required.
  • PowerControl and PowerAssist, draws battery power to supplement a limited grid or generator supply when load demand exceeds the input limit.
  • Transfer switch, typical switchover time of 20ms.

Applications

Suited to residential battery storage systems paired with rooftop solar, and to light commercial energy storage or backup power projects. It is a single-phase unit, and can be run in parallel for higher power, or combined with other units for split-phase and three-phase systems. VE.Bus communication lets it work alongside Victron MPPT solar charge controllers, BMV battery monitors and other VE.Bus or VE.Can devices.

Charging and installation

The adaptive charging algorithm adjusts its charge curve to battery behaviour rather than a fixed profile, across lead-acid and lithium chemistries. PowerAssist is useful where the AC input is constrained, such as a small generator or a weak grid connection: the unit draws the maximum current the source allows and covers any extra demand from the battery, keeping the source within its rated capacity. The unit weighs 21.91kg and needs a fixed, ventilated mounting position with appropriate DC fusing and AC isolation, in line with BS 7671 and any relevant DNO requirements.
