The Victron Energy AGM Super Cycle 12V 230Ah battery is a deep-cycle lead-acid battery built for applications where regular deep discharge is unavoidable. Standard AGM cells are designed for standby or shallow-cycle duty and lose life quickly once they are regularly taken below 50% state of charge. This Super Cycle version uses a modified plate design and electrolyte formulation so it tolerates repeated discharge to 80% depth of discharge without the accelerated wear seen in conventional AGM batteries. M8 threaded insert terminals give a bolt-down connection suited to professional solar, marine and off-grid installations.

Usable capacity and bank building

At 80% depth of discharge, the 230Ah rating gives roughly 184Ah usable, around 2.2kWh per battery in a 12V system. Units can be paralleled to increase capacity or wired in series pairs for a 24V bank. Victron recommends using identical batteries from the same production batch when paralleling, to keep charging and discharge behaviour balanced across the bank.

Applications

Suited to off-grid solar storage with daily deep cycling, marine house battery banks, motorhome and vehicle leisure installations, UPS and backup power systems, and remote telecoms or monitoring sites running on solar charging.

Installation notes

At 61 kg the battery needs suitable lifting equipment and a structurally sound mounting surface. Install in a ventilated area in line with BS EN 50272 or equivalent local regulations, even though sealed AGM construction produces minimal gas in normal use. Size all wiring for the system's maximum discharge current and protect it with a correctly rated fuse or circuit breaker close to the battery terminal. Connection to charge controllers, inverters or inverter/chargers should be done by a qualified electrician, and grid-connected battery storage systems must meet G98 or G99 and relevant DNO requirements.
