Product Description

The Solis S5-EH1P5K-L is a 5kW single-phase hybrid inverter built for residential solar and battery storage. It combines AFCI arc-fault protection, a 5kW backup output, and fanless natural cooling with a backup switching time under 20ms. It works with lithium-ion batteries fitted with a BMS, and with lead-acid batteries.

Key features

  • Output, 5000W (5kW) single-phase rated power
  • Backup power, 5kW available to critical loads during a grid outage
  • Switching time, under 20ms when moving to backup mode
  • MPPT design, 2 MPPTs, max string input current 15A
  • Cooling, fanless natural convection, no moving parts
  • Protection, integrated AFCI arc-fault detection

How it works

In normal operation the inverter behaves as a grid-tie unit, sending solar power to household loads first, then to battery storage, then exporting any surplus. If the grid fails, it switches to backup mode within 20ms and supplies up to 5kW from battery and solar to the loads on the backup circuit. A changeover switch is required for this backup output.

An intelligent EMS runs continuously, letting the system be set to different working modes depending on tariff structure, household consumption, and battery state. It monitors the PV plant around the clock and adjusts automatically as conditions change. Remote control and firmware upgrades are also supported.

Applications

  • Residential single-phase hybrid solar and battery systems
  • Self-consumption setups that need backup resilience during grid failure
  • Installations managing time-of-use electricity tariffs

Installation and safety notes

Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or an MCS-accredited solar installer. A changeover switch is needed for the backup output circuit, and grid connection requires a G98 notification or G99 application to the DNO. Battery systems must meet BS EN 62619 and applicable building regulations.
