The Solis S5-EA1P3K-L is a 3kW single phase AC coupled inverter that adds battery storage to an existing grid-tied solar PV system, or charges batteries directly from the mains grid. It does not need solar panels to operate, and works with both lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries. A CT current transformer is included for managing grid power flow.

Product overview

The S5-EA1P3K-L lets homeowners and businesses with an existing grid-tied solar installation add battery storage without replacing their current inverter. It connects on the AC side of the system, charging the battery from solar generation or from the grid on an off-peak tariff, then discharging to supply loads during peak periods or a grid outage.

For properties without solar panels, the inverter can charge a battery bank purely from the mains at a low-cost overnight tariff and discharge during peak hours. No PV installation is required, and panels can be added later. Natural convection cooling removes the external fan found on many inverter-chargers, cutting noise and one common source of mechanical failure.

Installation and safety notes

This inverter must be installed by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited solar installer. G98 or G99 notification and DNO approval are required before grid connection. AC wiring, battery connections and earthing must comply with IET Wiring Regulations and the Solis installation manual, with CAN communication to the lithium battery BMS correctly configured before use.
