Applications

Y-branch connectors combine multiple solar panel strings into a single DC run before an inverter or charge controller. In smaller systems with two or three strings, this avoids the cost and installation time of a full combiner box. Typical uses include residential and small commercial arrays, shortening cable runs ahead of a combiner box, and adding strings to an existing single-string array.

Fusing and safety

Each input string needs its own string fuse, rated to the string short-circuit current, fitted before connecting to the Y-branch. The connector itself provides no overcurrent protection. Use only with solar-rated PV cable, not automotive or general-purpose cable. DC solar circuits carry dangerous voltages, so installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited solar installer. Never connect or disconnect under load.
