Product Description
The Victron Centaur 24/60(3) is a mains-powered battery charger with three independent output channels, built for charging separate battery banks from a single unit. It runs from a wide AC input of 120 to 240V, so it works across UK, European and other mains supplies without adjustment.
Key features
- Output, 60A total at 24V, split across three separate charging terminals.
- AC input, accepts 120 to 240V AC.
- Charging profile, four-stage adaptive algorithm covering bulk, absorption, float and storage.
- Temperature compensation, built-in sensor adjusts output voltage to battery temperature, with an optional external sensor for remote battery locations.
- Battery compatibility, suits flooded, gel and AGM lead-acid battery types.
- Battery safe mode, protects against deep discharge when the charger is connected to a battery under load.
- Weight, 9.5 kg, in a metal enclosure.
Product overview
The Centaur range is transformer-based rather than high-frequency switching, giving it tolerance for poor or unstable mains supplies. That makes it a fit for marine, vehicle, generator and industrial settings where mains quality varies. The 60A output at 24V is divided across three terminals, so a starter battery, a domestic bank and a third bank can all be charged from one charger.
The adaptive charging profile responds to what the battery needs rather than running a fixed timer. During absorption the charger tracks current draw and only moves to float once the battery is actually full. Storage mode then lowers voltage further, reducing electrolyte loss and mains draw for batteries left connected for long periods.
Temperature sensing
A built-in sensor handles temperature compensation, and an external sensor is available where the charger and battery sit in different locations, such as a separate engine room or battery compartment.
Applications
- Marine vessels with separate engine start, bow thruster and domestic banks.
- Commercial vehicles, coaches and motorhomes charging multiple banks from shore power.
- Off-grid cabins and buildings using a generator for AC charging.
- Industrial and telecoms backup power with multiple lead-acid strings.
- Rental fleets and plant equipment needing overnight charging from one mains connection.
What's in the box
- Victron Centaur Charger 24/60 (3 outputs) unit
- Mains AC connection, hardwired, no plug supplied
Installation notes
This is a hardwired unit and should be installed by a qualified electrician. The AC input needs an appropriately rated circuit breaker and wiring compliant with local regulations, which in the UK means BS 7671. Allow ventilation around the unit, as the transformer generates heat under sustained charging, and fuse battery connections close to the terminals with correctly rated cable.
