How it works

Galvanic corrosion happens when small DC voltage differences exist between a marina's earth system and a moored vessel's earth. Current flows through the water and through underwater metal parts such as propellers, shafts and fittings, corroding them over time. A galvanic isolator interrupts this DC path while leaving the AC earth connection working, which the shore power system needs to operate safely.

The VDI-32A fits into the earth conductor of the shore power cable, between the inlet and the vessel's AC distribution board. It is a passive unit with nothing to monitor once wired in. Match the isolator rating to the vessel's shore power current, which here is up to 32A.

Installation notes

Fitting must be carried out by a qualified marine electrician, in the AC earth conductor. Incorrect installation can compromise the protective earth and create a safety hazard. Confirm the vessel's shore power draw does not exceed 32A before fitting.
