The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/24-15A is an isolated DC-DC battery-to-battery charger for dual-battery systems in vehicles, boats and off-grid installations. It takes a 12V input from a starter battery or alternator and outputs 24V at up to 15A, giving 360W of charging power with full galvanic isolation between input and output circuits.

How it works

Configuration runs entirely through the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth. Installers can set absorption voltage, float voltage, bulk current limits and the engine detection threshold from a phone or tablet, without a separate programming interface. The unit also accepts a two-wire remote on/off input, switchable via an ignition feed, a BMS, or a manual switch.

Because the charger applies its own multi-stage charge curve independently of the alternator, it works correctly even with vehicles using smart, variable-voltage alternators.

Installation notes

Fit by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator familiar with DC wiring practice. Cables must be correctly rated for the current draw, with appropriate fusing on both input and output sides close to the battery terminals. Marine installs should follow NMEA or RYA wiring guidance and meet the relevant boat safety scheme requirements. Wire the remote on/off connector to a switched ignition feed or BMS output to stop unintended discharge of the source battery when the engine is off. Do not exceed the specified input voltage range.
