Product Description

The Victron Energy 12V 240Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery is a sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid battery built for cyclic use in solar, off-grid and marine systems. It uses M8 threaded insert terminals and offers 240Ah of capacity for installations that need a single large-capacity 12V unit rather than several smaller batteries wired together.

Key features of this AGM deep cycle battery

  • Capacity, 240Ah at 12V nominal voltage.
  • Construction, AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat), sealed and valve-regulated, spill-proof for enclosed spaces.
  • Terminals, M8 threaded inserts for secure, torque-controlled connections.
  • Cycling, deep cycle design rated for repeated charge and discharge, unlike standby or starter batteries.
  • Maintenance, sealed and maintenance-free, no electrolyte topping up required.
  • Weight, 65.1 kg, so plan for mechanical lifting and enclosure loading.

Product overview

The glass mat separator holds the electrolyte in place, so there's no free liquid inside the cell. That means it can be mounted in orientations other than upright, and used in vehicles, boats or enclosures where a flooded battery wouldn't be allowed. Gas recombination happens internally in normal use; the safety valve only opens under fault or overcharge conditions.

Two units in series give a 24V bank, four give 48V. Parallel strings are possible too, though keeping the number of parallel strings low tends to help long-term reliability. Charging needs to sit within the AGM profile: overcharging speeds up water loss and grid corrosion, undercharging causes sulphation. Victron MPPT controllers and inverter/chargers include a dedicated AGM preset for this.

Applications

Suited to off-grid solar storage, marine house battery banks, motorhome leisure systems, UPS and backup power, and telecoms or industrial standby duty with regular cycling. Works within 12V, 24V or 48V Victron battery bank configurations.

Installation notes

At 65.1 kg this battery needs two people or mechanical assistance to move safely, and the mounting surface or enclosure must be rated for that weight. Torque the M8 terminal bolts to the manufacturer's specification, use correctly rated DC cabling and fusing, and set any charger or controller to the AGM profile. Don't fit it inside a fully sealed, unventilated enclosure, since the safety valve may need to vent under fault conditions. Grid-connected work should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
