Product Description

This branch connector joins three solar panels into a single parallel string, combining their current output while the string voltage stays the same. It's supplied as a pair, one male connector with three inputs and one output, and one female connector with three inputs and one output, both compatible with standard MC4 solar cables.

Key features

  • Configuration, 3 inputs, 1 output on each connector.
  • Pair supplied, one male and one female connector per pack.
  • MC4-compatible, works with standard solar PV cabling.
  • Waterproof, suitable for outdoor installation.
  • System use, suitable for off-grid, grid-tie and hybrid solar systems.

How parallel wiring works

Wiring solar panels in parallel joins all the positive cables together and all the negative cables together. This raises the current at the maximum power point while the voltage stays fixed. As an example given by the manufacturer, two identical panels each producing 8A at 18V will produce 16A at 18V once connected in parallel. Standard MC4 cables aren't designed to be joined positive to positive or negative to negative, which is where a purpose-built branch connector like this one comes in, reducing three positive leads to one and three negative leads to one.

What's in the box

  • 1x branch connector with 3 male inputs and 1 male output
  • 1x branch connector with 3 female inputs and 1 female output

Installation and safety

Each input string needs its own string fuse rated for that string's short-circuit current, since these connectors don't provide overcurrent protection themselves. DC solar circuits carry dangerous voltages: never connect or disconnect under load, and leave the wiring work to a qualified electrician.
