During the energy crisis of 2022 I started looking at solar as my electricity bill was just under £500 per month 9 inclusive of charging an electric car with a 17kw battery) . I researched many options but decided on diy. I met with great resistance from my local council who directed me to the national grid for my planned install. The short version - these inverters do not require G98 or G99, or MCS approval as they are not able to feed back to the grid. Working in industry and being responsible for some very large lead acid battery charging installations, I designed a system to charge and store cheap electricity overnight using lead acid batteries, and with a duty and standby system. This system has run 24/7 since January 2023, I have not as yet installed solar panels as charging batteries for £0.07 per Kw for 45kw power day usage equates to approximately £95 per month.if you do the sums the install cost me just over £5k (that includes 4off 24v 610amp lead aci batteries which I obtained for a good price) the payback was in little over 13 months- it puts a smile on my face every day when I go out to work. The inverters used are the Voltacon 11kW units mounted in parallel to give 22kw capacity for high loads. They will also default to duty and standby should one fail, the inverters are well built, have a good user defined range of options and the ability to select multiple sources. The support from Voltacon has been excellent and Steve is very knowledgeable on this subject

Product Description
The Conversol Max 11kW is a single-phase off-grid solar inverter charger delivering 11kW continuous pure sine wave AC output and 11kW PV input via dual independent MPPT. It runs on a 48V DC battery bank and works with lead-acid, GEL, lithium-ion and LiFePO4 batteries, with BMS communication ports already fitted for lithium setups.

Applications
Suited to large off-grid residential properties, farms, workshops and light commercial or industrial sites where continuous AC demand reaches or exceeds 11kW. It handles agricultural loads such as water pumps, air compressors and refrigeration, and can support off-grid EV charging, heat pumps and air conditioning at 230V.
Parallel and redundancy
Parallel hardware and communication ports come pre-installed, so units can be linked to scale output without extra interface hardware. If one unit in a parallel array fails, the rest keep supplying power, so the system has built-in redundancy.
Battery-independent mode
The inverter can feed AC loads directly from the solar array without a battery connected, as long as the PV string voltage is high enough. Voltacon recommends a minimum of 8 to 10 panels wired in series for this mode.
Installation notes
This is an 11kW system and must be installed by a qualified electrician or solar installer, with correct cable sizing, busbar ratings, fusing, DC and AC isolators, surge protection and earthing. Battery systems must comply with BS EN 62619 and local building regulations.
