Product Description

The Conversol SCC-MPPT is a 3kW solar charge controller that automatically detects battery voltage across 12V, 24V, and 48V banks. It uses maximum power point tracking to pull the most from a connected PV array and works with sealed lead-acid, vented, GEL, and NiCd batteries, as well as lithium-ion.

Key features of this mppt solar charge controller

  • PV input, up to 3kW maximum
  • Battery voltage, automatic detection of 12V, 24V or 48V
  • Battery chemistries, sealed, vented, GEL, NiCd and lithium-ion
  • Display, LCD showing real-time system data
  • Communication, RS485 for monitoring and configuration
  • Protection, over-voltage, over-current, reverse polarity and short circuit

How it works

At startup the controller reads the connected battery bank and sets itself to 12V, 24V or 48V without any manual switching. Its MPPT algorithm keeps tracking the array's peak power point as sunlight and temperature change through the day. Temperature compensation is also built in, adjusting the charge profile to suit the battery.

The RS485 port lets the unit be monitored or configured remotely, or connected to a data logger, which suits off-grid sites that aren't checked daily.

Applications

Fits off-grid residential and rural solar systems, and hybrid setups that also draw on a generator or grid backup. It handles 12V, 24V and 48V battery charging from arrays up to 3kW, including systems built around lithium ion battery storage.

Installation and safety notes

Fit in a well-ventilated space away from anything flammable. Wiring should follow IET Wiring Regulations, with battery connections made to correct polarity. The rated maximum charge current and 3kW PV input must not be exceeded.
