The Victron Smart IP43 Charger 24/16(1+1) is a mains-powered battery charger built for professional and trade installations. It supplies 16A of charge current to a 24V primary battery bank, with a second isolated output for keeping a starter battery topped up. The 120-240V AC input covers UK, European and North American mains supplies.

Battery compatibility

The charger works with lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries. The adaptive algorithm adjusts absorption time based on the previous discharge, so it avoids overcharging on shallow cycles while still completing a full charge after a deep one. Stages include bulk, absorption, float, storage, recondition and equalisation depending on battery type and configuration.

Applications

The 1+1 output suits marine, vehicle and off-grid installations where a starter battery needs independent maintenance alongside a main service bank. The second output is isolated and runs at a fixed float voltage, so it does not disturb the primary charge cycle. All configuration, including battery type and voltage thresholds, is done through VictronConnect over Bluetooth. At 3.7kg the unit fits into confined spaces such as engine bays, battery compartments and panel boards. The IP43 rating tolerates incidental moisture but the charger should not be installed anywhere subject to direct water ingress or submersion.

Installation notes

Fitting should be carried out by a qualified electrician or a competent person familiar with DC battery systems. Mount the charger somewhere ventilated, away from flammable materials, and confirm the AC supply is correctly fused. Check the battery chemistry setting in VictronConnect before first use, as an incorrect profile can damage the battery. For lithium banks, confirm compatibility with the specific BMS before connecting. This charger is not intended for grid-tied solar use and does not require G98 or G99 notification.
