Product Description

The Victron RS232 to USB converter lets a laptop or PC without a native serial port communicate with Victron equipment that still uses RS232 for configuration and monitoring. It is intended for installers and technicians who need to connect to this interface using a standard USB connection.

Key features

  • Interface conversion, RS232 (DB9) to USB.
  • Weight, 0.045 kg, easy to carry in a tool kit.
  • Connection, plug-and-play USB, no external power needed.
  • Compatibility, works with Victron Energy devices that use RS232 communication.
  • SKU, ASS030200000.

Product overview

RS232 is a legacy serial standard still found on several Victron inverters and chargers for direct configuration and data access. Most current laptops have dropped the physical DB9 port, so a converter becomes necessary for anyone working on this interface. Once the driver is installed, this adapter presents itself to the computer as a virtual COM port, letting Victron software talk to the connected equipment as if a native serial port were fitted.

Applications

Useful for connecting a laptop to Victron inverters or chargers during configuration, for on-site commissioning where the host machine lacks RS232, for firmware updates over the RS232 interface, and for bench testing and fault-finding on RS232-enabled Victron products.

What's in the box

  • 1 x Victron Energy RS232 to USB converter

Installation notes

The host computer may need a driver installed before the converter appears as a virtual COM port. Make sure the Victron software is set to the correct COM port number. This is a passive interface adapter with no external power requirement, so no specialist electrical work is needed for the adapter itself. Any work on the connected Victron inverter or battery system should still be carried out by a qualified installer.
