Product Description
The Victron Energy Outdoor GSM Antenna extends 2G and 3G cellular connectivity for Victron monitoring equipment installed where indoor signal is poor. Built for permanent outdoor mounting, it suits remote sites, rooftop plant rooms and agricultural buildings where the GSM modem sits away from a window or inside a metal enclosure.
Key features
- Frequency support, 2G (GSM/GPRS) and 3G (UMTS/HSPA) cellular bands.
- Installation type, outdoor, with weatherproof construction for exposed locations.
- Weight, 0.08 kg, straightforward to mount on masts, walls or enclosure exteriors.
- Compatibility, works with Victron remote monitoring and communication accessories using a standard external antenna connector.
Why it's needed
Victron GSM modems need a stable cellular link to send data to the VRM portal. When a modem sits inside a sealed enclosure or behind thick masonry, the signal is attenuated. Running an external antenna to a spot with clear line of sight to a cell tower solves this without moving the modem.
Because it is rated for outdoor use, the antenna can go straight onto an exterior wall, a pole or the top of an enclosure. Dual 2G and 3G support means it still works on older GPRS networks where 4G coverage is absent and the connection falls back to a legacy standard.
Applications
- Off-grid solar installations in rural or remote locations needing better GSM modem reach.
- Victron equipment housed inside metal distribution boards or enclosures.
- Agricultural and farm-based energy systems where buildings block indoor reception.
- Marine installations where the modem is below deck or inside a fibreglass hull.
- Commercial rooftop solar systems using Victron remote monitoring with unreliable indoor signal.
What's in the box
- 1 x Victron Energy Outdoor 2G and 3G GSM Antenna
Installation notes
Mount with clear exposure to the sky or towards the nearest cell tower, avoiding positions directly behind metal structures. Check the antenna connector matches the port on your Victron GSM modem before fitting. Seal any cable routing through enclosure walls to maintain the enclosure's IP rating. Work forming part of a grid-connected or high-voltage system should be carried out by a qualified installer.
