Product Description

The Victron Energy 50A Buck-Boost DC/DC Converter is a non-isolated DC to DC converter for mobile, off-grid and vehicle-based electrical systems where input and output voltages differ or fluctuate. It suits professional installers working on campervans, boats, trucks and off-grid installations that need stable, regulated DC power from a variable source.

Victron DC to DC converter features

  • Output current, 50A continuous, for high-demand DC loads and battery charging.
  • Topology, buck-boost, able to step voltage up or down and hold a stable output whether the input runs above or below the target.
  • Design, non-isolated, giving an efficient conversion path with less heat than a transformer-based isolated converter.
  • Weight, 1.39 kg, compact enough for vehicle cabinets and marine enclosures.
  • Range, part of the Victron Energy DC/DC converter line, with compatibility for Victron system monitoring and integration where supported.

Product overview

A buck-boost converter handles input voltages both above and below the target output, unlike a simple buck or boost design. That matters when battery voltage sags under load, alternator output shifts with engine speed, or two banks of different nominal voltages need connecting. A fixed-topology converter would either fail to regulate or cut out; this one keeps working through those swings.

The non-isolated architecture shares a common ground between input and output, which is standard in most 12V and 24V vehicle and marine systems and gives a more efficient conversion path. Confirm a shared ground suits your system before choosing this over an isolated converter.

At 50A it can charge a secondary battery bank at a meaningful rate or supply substantial DC loads, making it suited to split-charge systems and DC-coupled solar storage setups.

Applications

  • Split-charge systems in campervans, motorhomes and HGVs with differing leisure and starter battery voltages.
  • Marine dual-bank charging from a variable alternator or solar input.
  • Off-grid cabins and mobile installations needing a stable DC rail from a fluctuating battery bank.
  • DC-coupled systems charging a 12V bank from a 24V source, or the reverse.
  • Telecom and industrial DC power systems needing regulated conversion between bus voltages.

Installation notes

Install with a qualified electrician or system integrator experienced with DC power. As a non-isolated converter it shares a common ground between input and output; check this suits your system, especially in marine environments where ground loops can cause corrosion or interference. Cabling must be rated for 50A continuous current with appropriate fusing on both input and output sides, following the wiring standards relevant to your application.
