The Victron Blue Smart IP22 12/20(1) is a single-output 12V, 20A battery charger built for trade and marine use. It plugs into a 230V supply via a CEE 7/7 (Schuko/French) connector and has Bluetooth built in, so it can be monitored and adjusted through the Victron Connect app without any extra dongle or laptop.

Product overview

A microprocessor watches the battery's response during the bulk phase and adjusts the absorption time accordingly, which limits overcharging on batteries that are only partially discharged. Fixed-time chargers tend to overcharge in this scenario, and that shortens battery life over time. Storage mode then holds the battery at a suitable voltage during long idle periods without continuous gassing.

Battery chemistry is selectable in the app: gel, AGM, flooded lead-acid and LiFePO4 are all supported. The IP22 rating allows fitting in an engine bay, locker or sheltered outbuilding, but the unit should not be exposed to direct rain or submersion. Victron also makes two-output and three-output versions of this charger for multi-bank setups; this listing is the single-output variant.

Installation notes

Connect to a 230V AC supply via the supplied CEE 7/7 plug, protected by an appropriately rated fuse or MCB. DC connections go to the battery terminals with correct polarity; the unit has reverse polarity protection. For lithium batteries, check the BMS is compatible with the charger's lithium profile first. Allow ventilation around the unit in enclosed spaces, and have a qualified auto-electrician or marine electrician carry out any permanent vehicle or vessel wiring.
