Product Description

The Victron Orion-Tr 24/12-15 is a non-isolated DC-DC converter that steps a 24V supply down to a regulated 12V output at up to 15A, giving 180W of continuous power. It suits vehicles, marine installations and off-grid systems where two DC voltage rails need to run from a single battery bank.

Key features

  • Input, 24V DC nominal.
  • Output, 12V DC at up to 15A continuous.
  • Output power, 180W continuous.
  • Topology, non-isolated buck converter; input and output share a common ground, which simplifies wiring in single-battery-bank systems.
  • Weight, 0.26kg in a compact enclosure.
  • Duty rating, built for continuous operation, not intermittent or peak-rated use.

Product overview

As a buck converter, the Orion-Tr 24/12-15 takes the higher 24V input and reduces it to a stable 12V output. The non-isolated version is the right choice when source and load share a common negative connection, which is standard in most vehicle and marine DC systems. Where galvanic isolation is required between separate battery banks with independent grounds, the isolated Orion-Tr variant should be used instead. There is no Bluetooth or VE.Direct interface on this unit, and it does not need a Victron battery monitor or GX device to operate. It is a fixed-function converter, which keeps installation straightforward.

Applications

Typical uses include powering 12V accessories from a 24V vehicle or truck electrical system, supplying 12V control circuits or instrumentation from a 24V marine house bank, running 12V loads in off-grid cabins or caravans with a 24V battery bank, and providing a regulated 12V rail for communications or navigation equipment in commercial vehicles.

Installation notes

Input and output negatives are connected internally on this non-isolated unit. Confirm your system can tolerate a shared ground before fitting it. Input wiring should be fused close to the source battery to suit the cable gauge used. Installation should be carried out by a competent 12V/24V DC electrician. This converter is not intended for grid-connected or AC applications.
