Product Description
The Victron 12/500 is a 500VA pure sine wave inverter that converts 12V DC battery power into 230V AC. It suits vehicles, boats, off-grid cabins and small backup setups where a compact power inverter for solar power or leisure battery systems is needed. A VE.Direct port lets it connect straight into Victron's monitoring ecosystem without extra hardware.
Key features
- Output, 500VA continuous at 230V AC from a 12V DC input
- Waveform, pure sine wave, suitable for sensitive electronics and motor loads
- Monitoring, VE.Direct port for connection to Victron GX devices, MPPT solar chargers and monitoring displays
- Output socket, UK plug socket (BS1363) for direct connection of standard UK appliances
- Protections, low battery voltage shutdown, over-temperature and overload cutoff
- Weight, 4.1 kg
Product overview
Sitting at the entry point of Victron's VE.Direct inverter range, the 12/500 handles smaller loads such as lighting, laptop and phone chargers, small power tools or entertainment equipment. The pure sine wave output avoids the interference and damage risk that modified sine wave inverters can cause with switch-mode supplies and inductive loads.
VE.Direct integration matters for anyone building a wider system. The inverter can be monitored and controlled through a Cerbo GX or Color Control GX, or via the VictronConnect app using a VE.Direct to USB or Bluetooth adapter, so it fits into a Victron off-grid or backup setup rather than running as an isolated unit. The built-in UK socket removes the need for adapters on this variant.
Applications
- Campervans and motorhomes needing 230V AC from a 12V leisure battery
- Narrowboats and sailing vessels with 12V DC house banks
- Off-grid cabins and garden buildings on small battery systems
- Backup power for low-draw household appliances
- Remote monitoring stations and telecoms enclosures
Installation notes
Connect to a 12V DC battery bank with correctly rated DC cabling and fusing, sized to handle the current safely. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person familiar with DC power systems. The unit is not grid-connected and does not require G98 or G99 notification. Keep it ventilated to avoid thermal shutdown under sustained load.
