Product overview

The 12/250 sits at the entry level of Victron's VE.Direct inverter range. At 250VA it isn't intended for high-draw appliances, but it copes well with small continuous loads: LED lighting, phone and laptop charging, small fans and low-power tools. Pure sine wave output means it won't cause the issues that a modified sine wave inverter can with switch-mode power supplies or motors.

The VE.Direct interface is what separates this from a basic inverter. It integrates with Victron's monitoring ecosystem, including the Cerbo GX and Color Control GX, giving visibility of inverter status, load and fault conditions through the VRM portal. That makes it a practical choice for small off-grid systems where monitoring still matters.

The IEC output socket takes standard IEC-fitted appliances directly. Protection circuits cover low battery cutoff, overload shutdown and thermal protection, and all reset automatically once the fault clears.

Installation notes

This inverter connects directly to a 12V DC battery bank. DC cable sizing and fusing must be appropriate for the current draw at full load. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced installer. The unit is not grid-connected and does not require G98 or G99 notification, but all AC wiring from the IEC output must comply with BS 7671.
