The Victron BlueSolar PWM-LCD & USB 12/24V-5A is a compact PWM solar charge controller for small 12V or 24V battery systems. It automatically detects system voltage and regulates charging via pulse width modulation, with a built-in LCD display and a USB output for charging phones and small devices directly from the solar system.

How it works

PWM controllers connect the solar panel directly to the battery during bulk charging, then switch the connection on and off to hold the battery at its target voltage. This suits small systems where panel and battery voltages are close, and where the lower cost of PWM is preferable to MPPT. The LCD removes the need for a separate battery monitor in basic setups, and the USB port avoids a separate 12V-to-USB adapter in a vehicle or cabin. At 5A this controller is intended for small panel arrays; larger systems or those needing more harvest optimisation should use Victron's MPPT range instead.

Applications

Suited to small off-grid cabins and garden buildings with a single panel and a 12V or 24V battery, caravans and campervans, narrowboats and small leisure craft, and remote monitoring stations, gate openers or other small standalone 12V/24V systems.

Installation notes

Check that the solar panel's open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current are within the controller's rated limits before connecting, and fuse correctly between battery and controller. DIY installation is suitable for low-voltage leisure applications, but any installation forming part of a fixed electrical system in a building or vessel should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer.
