Product Description
The Victron Inverter 48/1200 is a pure sine wave inverter for 48V battery systems, converting DC power to 230V AC at 1200VA continuous output. It suits off-grid installations, marine and vehicle setups, and backup power systems where a compact, reliable inverter is needed. A VE.Direct communication port allows direct integration with Victron monitoring gear and system controllers.
Victron inverter key features
- Output, 1200VA continuous at 230V AC from a 48V DC battery bank.
- Waveform, pure sine wave, suited to sensitive electronics and motor loads.
- Communication, VE.Direct port for Victron GX devices, MPPT controllers and monitoring systems.
- AC connector, IEC output for straightforward wiring to standard European and UK loads.
- Weight, 6.9 kg, compact for space-constrained installations.
- Protection, low battery voltage shutdown, overload protection and over-temperature shutdown.
Product overview
The 48/1200 runs on a 48V nominal battery input, the preferred voltage for larger off-grid and backup systems because it draws lower DC current for the same power level. At 1200VA it handles lighting, small appliances, power tools and communications equipment. Because the output is pure sine wave, it is not limited to resistive loads and will run inductive loads such as motors and compressors.
The VE.Direct interface lets the inverter talk to Victron's Color Control GX, Cerbo GX and other system monitors, giving remote monitoring, data logging and integration into a wider Victron Energy system. That makes it a practical choice where system visibility matters, not just standalone power conversion.
The IEC output format is standard for European and UK installations and simplifies connection to distribution boards and load circuits. Automatic shutdown on low battery, overload and over-temperature reduces the risk of damage to the inverter and connected loads under fault conditions.
Applications
- Off-grid cabins, lodges and remote buildings with 48V battery banks.
- Marine vessels requiring 230V AC from a 48V DC system.
- Vehicle and motorhome conversions with 48V lithium or AGM battery installations.
- Backup power for communications, security and essential loads.
- Victron-based energy systems needing VE.Direct monitoring integration.
Installation notes
This inverter operates at 48V DC and should be installed by a qualified electrician familiar with DC battery systems and AC wiring. DC cable sizing must suit the current draw at 48V to avoid voltage drop and heat build-up, and the battery bank must be rated for the inverter's peak demand. Any installation forming part of a grid-connected or building electrical system must comply with BS 7671 and be carried out by a competent person. VE.Direct connection requires a compatible Victron GX device or VE.Direct to USB interface for monitoring.
