Product Description

The Victron Energy 2000A/50mV shunt is a high-current DC measuring shunt for large battery systems, off-grid installations and commercial energy storage. It produces a calibrated 50mV signal at full rated current, which feeds into a battery monitor or energy management system so that current draw can be read accurately. Three M10 connection points allow heavy-gauge cabling suited to high-amperage DC circuits.

Key features of this victron shunt

  • Rated current, 2000A continuous DC with a 50mV full-scale output signal, giving a shunt resistance of 0.025 milliohms.
  • Terminals, three M10 bolt connections for secure, low-resistance cable attachment.
  • Monitor compatibility, works with Victron BMV battery monitors and other shunt-based monitoring equipment accepting a 50mV input.
  • Weight, 2.15kg, reflecting the busbar and resistive element needed at this current rating.
  • SKU, SHU202050200, GTIN 8719076026204.

How it works

A shunt inserts a known, very low resistance into the DC circuit. The voltage drop across it is proportional to the current flowing through, and at 2000A this unit produces exactly 50mV, the standard signal level accepted by most battery monitors and data loggers. The measurement is passive, needing no separate power supply, so it fits easily into existing monitoring wiring.

At this current, cable sizing, terminal torque and busbar layout matter. The three M10 terminals let load and source cables be spread across multiple connection points, which reduces localised heating on any single terminal. This suits systems where several battery strings or inverters share one measurement point. Position the shunt as close to the battery negative terminal as practical so it captures all current flow.

The 50mV output is a widely used standard. Owners of a Victron BMV-700, BMV-712 or SmartShunt can use this external shunt to extend measurement beyond the 500A shunt built into those monitors, covering systems that would otherwise exceed its rating.

Applications

  • Large off-grid battery banks with multiple strings in parallel needing one high-current measurement point.
  • Commercial and industrial energy storage where total DC current exceeds a standard integrated shunt.
  • Marine and vehicle installations with high-capacity lithium or lead-acid battery systems.
  • DC distribution boards in large solar PV systems feeding multiple inverters or loads.
  • Retrofit current monitoring on installations with no shunt currently fitted.

What's in the box

  • 1x Victron Energy 2000A/50mV shunt with 3xM10 terminals

Installation notes

This shunt carries the full DC current of the system and should be installed by a qualified electrician or experienced DC systems installer. Incorrect cable sizing, inadequate terminal torque or poor busbar connections risk overheating or fire at this current. Mount on a non-conductive surface or a properly insulated busbar assembly, use correctly rated lugs, and route the 50mV sense wiring away from power cables to avoid interference. For grid-connected systems, UK wiring regulations BS 7671 apply.
