Product Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/100-MC4 VE.Can is a high-current solar charge controller built for large battery-based solar systems. It accepts a maximum PV open-circuit voltage of 150V and delivers up to 100A of charge current, suited to off-grid, marine and commercial installations that need high output and network integration.
Key features of the smartsolar mppt 150/100
- Maximum PV input voltage of 150V and maximum charge current of 100A
- MC4 connectors integrated on the unit, removing the need for separate MC4 adaptor cables at the PV input
- VE.Can port for integration with Victron GX devices, other VE.Can components and NMEA 2000 marine networks
- Built-in Bluetooth via VictronConnect for configuration, monitoring and firmware updates from a phone or tablet
- Supports lithium-ion, AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries with user-configurable charge profiles
- Load output for direct DC load connection with programmable control based on battery state of charge
- Reverse polarity, over-temperature, over-current and short-circuit protection built in
Product overview
The 150/100 rating means the controller can handle a PV array with an open-circuit voltage up to 150V and push up to 100A into the battery bank. At 12V that works out at around 1,300W of solar input; at 48V it rises to around 5,000W. This makes it suited to medium and large off-grid systems, large marine installations, and commercial sites where one high-current controller is preferable to several smaller units.
The VE.Can interface sets this unit apart from the standard SmartSolar 150/100. It lets the controller talk to Victron GX devices such as the Cerbo GX or Venus GX over CAN-bus, enabling system integration, data logging and remote monitoring through the VRM portal. The same port supports NMEA 2000, useful where a chart plotter or MFD needs to read the controller's data. VictronConnect Bluetooth works out of the box, no dongle needed.
Applications
- Large off-grid residential or commercial systems with 48V battery banks and high-wattage PV arrays
- Marine installations requiring NMEA 2000 integration with chart plotters or multifunction displays
- Mobile and vehicle-based systems where VE.Can system networking is already in use
- Multi-device Victron systems managed through a Cerbo GX or Venus GX with VRM remote monitoring
- Telecoms and remote monitoring stations needing reliable high-current charging
What's in the box
- Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/100-MC4 VE.Can charge controller
- VE.Can RJ45 terminator (required at each end of a VE.Can bus)
- Mounting hardware
Installation notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited solar installer. The PV input voltage must never exceed 150V under any condition, including cold-temperature open-circuit conditions, so string design needs to account for this. Battery bank connections at 100A call for correctly rated cabling and fusing.
