The Victron Smart BatteryProtect 12/24V-220A (BPR122022000) is a programmable battery protection device that disconnects non-essential DC loads before a battery reaches a damaging depth of discharge. It suits off-grid, marine, vehicle and backup power installations where protecting the battery from over-discharge matters.

Victron Smart Battery Protect features

• Current rating, 220A continuous DC load current on 12V or 24V systems, with no voltage conversion losses.
• Bluetooth connectivity, configure thresholds and monitor status wirelessly through the VictronConnect app.
• Programmable thresholds, disconnect and reconnect voltages can be set for lead-acid or lithium batteries.
• Remote on/off input, accepts a signal from a battery management system or other control device.
• Alarm output, sends a pre-disconnect warning so connected equipment can shut down before power is cut.
• Low self-consumption, minimises parasitic drain on the battery once the load is disconnected.

How it works

The unit monitors battery voltage continuously and disconnects the load circuit once voltage falls to a user-defined threshold, preventing deep discharge events that permanently reduce battery capacity. When the battery recovers to the set reconnect voltage, the load is restored automatically, and the reconnect delay is configurable to avoid rapid cycling. VictronConnect gives live voltage readings and history, useful for commissioning and fault-finding in awkward locations such as under-floor compartments or engine bays.

Applications

Used in off-grid solar systems, marine and narrowboat house battery banks, motorhome and campervan leisure batteries, vehicle auxiliary power systems and backup power setups needing automatic load shedding. In lithium installations, the remote on/off input lets a BMS force a disconnect independently of voltage thresholds.

Installation notes

Fit the Smart BatteryProtect in the load circuit only, between the battery and the DC loads. It must not be used in a charge circuit or to disconnect a charger from the battery. For lithium systems, connecting the BMS remote signal to the on/off input is recommended.
