How it works

PWM controllers connect the solar panel directly to the battery and pulse the connection to regulate charge current, which works well when panel voltage is close to battery voltage. The BlueSolar PWM-Light is the simplified model in Victron's PWM range: no Bluetooth, no VE.Direct port, no display. For remote monitoring or integration with a wider Victron system, the BlueSolar PWM-Pro or MPPT range is the better fit.

Applications

The 20A rating suits solar arrays up to around 260W on 12V or 520W on 24V. It fits small cabins, garden buildings, caravans, narrowboats and other leisure craft, gate openers and remote monitoring stations, and rural sites that need a low-maintenance charger.

Installation notes

Fit in a dry, ventilated spot away from direct sun and moisture. Connect the battery terminals first, then the solar panel, and disconnect in the reverse order. Cable sizing needs to suit the 20A maximum current, and a suitably rated fuse should sit on the battery positive cable close to the battery. This controller is not suitable for lithium batteries unless the manufacturer confirms compatibility with standard PWM profiles. Follow the wiring regulations relevant to any vessel or vehicle installation.
