Large Scale Solar Off-Grid Installation, 16kW

Voltacon supplied and the customer installed a 16kW off-grid solar system at his home. The property remains technically connected to the grid, but grid power is only drawn when the batteries cannot be charged from the solar panels.

The customer shared photos of the completed installation, showing the scale of the panel array and battery setup needed to run the home mostly independent of grid electricity.

System design

• 16kW solar capacity
• Battery storage charged directly from the panels
• Grid connection retained as a backup only, used when battery charge is insufficient

This setup allows the home to run on solar power for the majority of its electricity needs, falling back to the grid only when solar generation and battery storage cannot meet demand.
