Xylem Dewatering Solutions: Over 4km of LED Tube Lighting

Xylem Dewatering Solutions Ltd, Gloucestershire branch, appointed Voltacon UK Ltd to replace all fluorescent lighting with LED across its warehouse and offices. If every light fitting installed on this project were laid end to end, the total run would exceed 4000 metres.

The investment came to approximately £50,000, with installation costs of around £17,000 covering labour and the equipment needed to work safely in a warehouse with a high ceiling alongside normal-sized offices. The payback period is expected to reach 12 months, with total energy savings of 60%.

Products installed

• 8ft LED tubes at 35W, replacing 100W fluorescent equivalents
• 60x60cm LED panels at 40W, replacing 160W equivalents
• 120x60cm LED panels at 60W, replacing 260W equivalents
• LED bay lights at 100W, replacing 400W equivalents
• LED non-corrosive fittings at 60W

The lower wattages did not come at the cost of light quality. Lux and lumen levels were set to the correct scientific standard for the space, balancing comfort for staff with running costs.

Voltacon is guaranteeing 5 years of free maintenance on the installation. After that period, the LED products are expected to still emit 80% of their original output, based on use for 8 hours a day, Monday to Friday.

Workers at the site reported a noticeable improvement in brightness and general light quality, with no flickering or buzzing compared with the old fluorescent fittings.
