Installation of LED Lighting for John Lewis Car Park UK
Voltacon was chosen to light the car parks at one of the largest shopping centres in Birmingham. The John Lewis car park in Solihull, Birmingham, has approximately 2500 parking spaces and operates between the hours of 7am and 12am.
The customer was looking for a lighting solution that would enable them to:
- Save up to 60% in electricity.
- Reduce the carbon footprint by using green technology. The LEDs in the car park were the first step in achieving this.
- Keep existing Philips fittings to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
The engineers at Voltacon have extensive knowledge when it comes to LED lighting and developed a customised solution that will enable the customer to reuse their existing fittings resulting in:
- Quicker installation.
- Adaption of current fittings.
- Reduction of costs.
- No wastage from old fittings going to landfill.
Voltacon supplied a direct replacement LED T5 tube with emergency pack and NI-CID battery that fits on the reflector of the non-corrosive Phillips fitting.
The first phase of this extensive project involved the replacement of 870, 5 foot CFL (fluorescent) tubes and 150 emergency kits. The project was completed by Voltacon to meet the latest lighting industry regulations within 7 working days, thanks to a team of five NICEIC Approved and IPAF qualified electricians.
Voltacon’s vast experience in large-scale LED lighting projects gave the customer confidence in awarding the full tender to Voltacon.
The second phase of this car park project will involve 1600 pieces of 4 foot T5 LED 15w tubes with each Philips fixture needing to be rewired and modified to operate with a microwave sensor.
The customer wanted a reduction of energy usage whilst maintaining the safety of the people using the car park. By using T5 LED tubes, which are dimmable, Voltacon has increased the energy savings of the project by up to 90%.
Voltacon designed and manufactured a solution that will increase energy savings whilst still giving members of the public the lighting they expect from a car park of this scale. As soon as a pedestrian or car enters the car park, the LED light will be fully turned on for maximum safety and security. After the elapsed period of 2 minutes has passed, the LED tube lighting will be dimmed down to 20% efficiency.
